I think my hamster is sick

My hamster smells really bad ... well his cage and I feed him a mix of pellets and seeds and I clean out his cage once a week and spot clean every day or two in between .... So I bought a cage deoderizer at walmart for small animals ... I noticed a white liquid in one corner of the cage and I dont know if it was him throwing up or if it was just a yogurt treat that contacted pee and melted down .... how do I know if the deoderizer is making him sick or not and is it okay to use those in the first place it just dosnt seem safe to me .
