As it turns out the cause of your problem was your router blocking files sends for any filename that contains spaces. Since your mp3 list filename didn't have spaces it was able to send just fine... so it wasn't an issue of lists vs files per se.
In order to bypass this issue, go to the options panel, select the DCC Send tab, and check the 'Fill spaces with underscore' option. voila! problem fixed.
